ABOUT HAFFA

Take a look at a few of our members to see what we’re all ABOUT.

Jack Vetter, the one pictured above wearing a yellow cap, has been with this organization since its beginnings. Shown at the top of this page is Jack launching his Nesmith Cougar at the club’s 2015 picnic, typically held at Suman Saripalli’s farm you see in the background. Jack’s interests lie in a very wide range of model airplanes, both outdoor and indoor. Currently he is the Treasurer of our organization and is also pictured on our home page with his newly constructed red Fokker D-VIII. Nice job Jack!

HAFFA has members from all walks of life and age groups, and there are many different facets to this hobby.

The gentleman in the blue jacket above, Emil Shutzel, prefers indoor models and is shown launching one of his well constructed and detailed models. He has won several regional and national titles for his efforts over the years and continues to enjoy building and flying. “Build it light.” is his advice. An article featuring him and touching on several of the reasons why so many aeromodelers enjoy this hobby can be found at Planes and Spirits Take Flight — 1996.

The Heart of America Free Flight Association or HAFFA is dedicated
to the sport of free flight model airplane competition.

We are a chartered club of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the Society of Antique Modelers (SAM).
Most HAFFA Members also belong to the National Free Flight Society (NFFS) and/or the National Flying Aces Club.
